Meet the instructor

Namit Satara

Namit Satara helped teach 200+ MBA students in negotiation as a teaching assistant at UChicago Booth, where he earned his MBA. He started his career as a management consultant at Accenture, then pivoted to PepsiCo to help develop its strategy post-COVID. Today he negotiates for a living in strategy at a beverage company. Outside of work, he volunteers with KEEN, coaching adaptive sports for kids.

By the end, your teen will be able to

  • Walk into any negotiation with a plan and a walk-away point
  • Make the first offer, and back it up with a reason
  • Ask the questions that get real answers
  • Find deals where both sides come out ahead
  • Stay calm, spot a dodge, and settle a disagreement

90 minutes, every Monday

How a class works

  1. Negotiate

Every student gets a role and private information, then negotiates in a breakout room.

  2. See the results

We put the whole class's deals side by side and look at what worked.

  3. Learn the skill and try again

A short lesson, then a quick second round to use it right away.

How they'll practice

One-on-one, three-way and team negotiations, built around situations teens actually face: a first job offer, buying a used car, splitting money with friends, settling a dispute, and planning prom as a team.

Parents get a short recap after each class.

The 7 weeks

  1. Week 1 Nov 9

Make the first offer on a used car

Know your plan B and your walk-away number before anyone names a price.

  2. Week 2 Nov 16

Get the real story on a used laptop

Ask the questions that get real answers.

  3. Week 3 Nov 23

Turn a job offer into a better one

Trade what matters less for what matters more, so both sides win.

  4. Week 4 Nov 30

Sell a food truck without getting burned

Spot a dodge, get promises in writing, and know when to walk away.

  5. Week 5 Dec 7

Split money with friends and keep the friends

Learn who teams up with whom, and why fair splits are hard.

  6. Week 6 Dec 14

Settle a dispute before it costs everyone

A borrowed drone gets wrecked, and both sides have a point.

  7. Week 7 Dec 21

Negotiate as a team to plan prom

Then each student shares a real negotiation they ran on their own.

Questions parents ask

Does my teen need any experience?

No. Week 1 starts from zero. Students who do debate or DECA will find it builds on what they know, but it's not required.

What does a class actually look like?

About 30 minutes of students negotiating in breakout rooms, then we look at the class results together and learn the skill behind what happened. Every week ends with a quick second round so they can try the move right away.

When does it meet?

Seven Mondays, 7:00 to 8:30 pm ET, from November 9 to December 21, 2026.

Is there homework?

A little. Most weeks it's one small real-life ask, like asking for a better price or an extra day on a deadline. In the last two weeks, they do one real negotiation on their own and share it in the final class.

What if my teen misses a week?

I'll send a catch-up email with the case, the key skill and the homework, so they're ready for the next class. If they want, we can also do an optional 15-minute catch-up call.

Is this a debate class?

No. Debate is about winning an argument. Negotiation is about getting a deal both sides will say yes to. It's the skill they'll use for jobs, money and everyday life.

Does it help with college applications?

It gives them real stories to write about, like the negotiation they ran on their own in the final weeks. We don't promise admissions results.

What's the refund policy?

Try the first class. If it's not a fit, we'll refund you in full before Session 2.
